If the word Carmensita you don't associate you with a very unique song, that means you have never heard of Devendra Banhart. He was born Texas, USA, but he has a mother which is a venezuelan, that explains his not american name =) At 17 years old he began to busk instead of attending classes and played his first show in a church at a gay wedding, performing Elvis Presley's "Love Me Tender" and the classic hymn "How Great Thou Art. Banhart dropped out of art school in 2000 and left San Francisco after the dot-com bust worsened the city's economy. He moved to Paris over the summer and opened shows for indie rock bands such as Sonic Youth. Banhart returned to the United States in the fall of 2000 and played music in San Francisco and Los Angeles, until he was discovered by Michael Gira, owner of Young God Records.
It's not his biography that subdued me and not even his voice, which is unusual and special, but the music and the words. When I am listening to him I have an impression that he sings using my thoughts. It's always pleasantly when all qualities that are appreciated in a singer, you are able to find in one person. What is unusual, is that his songs haven't bored me, considering the fact, that I have discovered him more than a year ago. It is a rarity...
Wish you to find your own "musical soul" for a long period.
Please stay away from Wikipedia when you write your posts, or mark the quotations appropriately. As for favourite singers, one can have the same ones for years as long as they are really good. I will never be bored of Peter Gabriel or Suzanne Vega :)
